Spike-time reliability of periodically driven integrate-and-fire neurons
نویسندگان
چکیده
The response of model neurons driven by a periodic current converges onto mode-locked attractors. Reliability, de%ned as the noise stability of the attractor, was studied as a function of the drive frequency and noise strength. For weak noise, the neuron remained on one attractor and reliability was high. For intermediate noise strength, transitions between attractors occurred. For strong noise, mode locking became unstable. The attractor was most stable for frequencies for which the neuron produced one spike on each cycle. The prediction of a reliability resonance as a function of drive frequency has been observed in vitro in cortical neurons. c © 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

Markov analysis of stochastic resonance in a periodically driven integrate-and-fire neuron.
We model the dynamics of the leaky integrate-and-fire neuron under periodic stimulation as a Markov process with respect to the stimulus phase. This avoids the unrealistic assumption of a stimulus reset after each spike made in earlier papers and thus solves the long-standing reset problem. The neuron exhibits stochastic resonance, both with respect to input noise intensity and stimulus frequen...
متن کاملRole of STDP in regulation of neural timing networks in human: a simulation study
Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...

متن کاملAmplitude and frequency dependence of spike timing: implications for dynamic regulation.
The spike-time reliability of motoneurons in the Aplysia buccal motor ganglion was studied as a function of the frequency content and the relative amplitude of the fluctuations in the neuronal input, calculated as the coefficient of variation (CV). Measurements of spike-time reliability to sinusoidal and aperiodic inputs, as well as simulations of a noisy leaky integrate-and-fire neuron stimula...
متن کاملStimulus-Dependent Correlations in Threshold-Crossing Spiking Neurons
We consider a threshold-crossing spiking process as a simple model for the activity within a population of neurons. Assuming that these neurons are driven by a common fluctuating input with gaussian statistics, we evaluate the cross-correlation of spike trains in pairs of model neurons with different thresholds. This correlation function tends to be asymmetric in time, indicating a preference f...
